Quite a response. 937 views.

It seems we have three groups here. The first are those that are thrilled to see something from 2.0, but less thrilled with what they’re actually seeing. This attitude is not new or uncommon.

The second group is made up of those community members who feel that the existence of this blog has somehow done them a disservice, which is strange. They’ll follow those above them to the ends of the Earth. Oh well, the more you know…

The last group is the developers. Their attempts to save face through their vigorous PR campaigns on the forums are a little less than honest. Their hostility towards this blog is no surprise, as it’s something they cannot control, censor, or spin in their favor.

First, they called the build old and outdated. KG later admitted that it’s only a few weeks old, saying that what they have now is hardly changed at all. FictiousWill made sure to point out that the game is not feature complete, it plays badly, the models are unfinished, etc. Basically, nothing is done, looking good, or playable. The models may not have had the finishing touches added to them, but they’re pretty much done unless they’re going to be redesigned entirely. Cross your fingers, this stuff looks much worse in motion.

One can only imagine what they’ve been developing for over a year if this is all they have.

Your comments will be read, and while it’d be nice to reply to everything that will be said over the next coming weeks, this blog will not degrade into an outlet for the developers and their all too eager fanboys.

This will not be a rehash of what has already been shown off. New maps, models, art, game play, etc. Also, private and very interesting developer conversations that have been handed over.

There will be video in the next update. But this exchange should not be one sided, what do you want to see posted in coming updates? Feel free to post anonymously.

  8. If you’re so pissed about what the dev team is doing, then why don’t you stop whining and go make your own mod? You hardly have a premise for criticizing their work if you’re (1) getting it for free and (2) aren’t motivated enough to make a mod yourself.

  10. I’m still a bit confused as to why the fuck you all care so much about this? Last time I checked this game is free, its done on the free time of the developers at their leisure and they have every right to simply can the whole project if they see fit. They have no duty to you to produce new media, they have no contract that says they have to provide a new update in so many months. Get off their backs, god damn. Why the hell does it matter? I don’t care if the Dev team came out and went apeshit, they have every right to. These people put their time into this mod, and built it willingly and on their own free will, and they get rewarded by a hack? I guess I’m confused why such “dedicated” fans, fans who care enough to start a entire website devoted to “the dissemination of Source Forts Information” would feel the need to rail on ANYONE, let alone the same people who made the damn game in the first place. Maybe its the alcohol talking, and maybe its the fact that I just don’t give a fuck but seriously people get a life. The Dev team is having a shitty enough time as it is, this rumor-spreading cloak and dagger bullshit is the last thing they need. Goodnight

  12. Why do some people seem to care so much about SF 2.0 development ?

    It is true that even thinking of a release date for SF 2.0 seems to be an utopy, but after all, releasing a totally refurbished mod like this one with new scripts and animations, takes a lot of time.

    Not that I know much about scripting (in fact I don’t know nothing !) , but I can tell you that correctly animating a model, and making it in-game efficient is a challenge, especially when working on a project through the internet. There is a minimum delay required to do test runs.

    And besides that, it’s a game, the devs have lives, let them live; and work on the game when they want to. If they want to ?! l ;)

    I am one of those who loves this mod even if I don’t play it a lot, and am eager to see the new version finished, but, like Ali-G said, keep it real !

    …. and be patient my friend ! don’t you remember HL2 eternally postponed release date, or haven’t you heard of HL2 ep 2 announced for summer 2006 or so now pushed back to fall 2007 ?

    And that is from professional game-makers !
    So while SF 2 is in gestation, why not just have fun with 1.9.2 stable version where you can unbuild in combat mode without killing the server ;)

    Oh and as for the PR attemps, there isn’t much I can say about it, personally I didn’t care much about the e-mail I just received, nor about the ADURO studios thingy. Wheter it is plain PR or just some stuff the devs choose to do for future use is hard to tell actually.

    Aight that’s about all I had to say bout this, made me practice my writing skills, good thing. :)

    So good luck to anyone who dares to work on the SF 2.0 project.
    And. lots of fun to the good old 1.9.2 players.

  21. Whoever writes this blog sounds like their self righteous and enjoying shooting down the mod. I’m not a huge fan of SF, and I’m not impressed with the dev’s work, but nevertheless I personally find the tone of this blog disgusting.

    Get things in perspective. SF isnt yours. The devs aren’t spreading facist propoganda, they’re just talking up their own creation (who wouldnt), the devs don’t owe you anything. Mellow out dudes.
